Monte Tamaro

After lunch yesterday we took a surprise trip to Monte Tamaro to see another Botta Church - the Cappella di Santa Maria degli Angeli. This one is a bit different than the one we saw in Mogno. It’s built on top of a mountain next to a strange amusement park that you can hike or take a gondola to, but can’t drive. It’s less contained as a whole, and very compelling from the exterior.

Inside the finishing is a little suspect, but even though it was a real dick to sketch, I was down with the complexity of the section.

For the majority of the group, the verdict was that the mountain panorama was a little distracting, and the inside wasn’t cohesive enough with the outside to qualify as Botta’s best. I’m inclined to agree, but I didn’t hate it. It was still pretty sweet. What if you went to a church on a mountain? How much closer to heaven can you be, right?

You can get the full-res of that pan on flickr. Sorry this blog sucks for big pictures. Como tomorrow with Clooney (George. Yeah, I said it) and Oktoberfest for the weekend!
